Outdoor Tiles

South Africans love spending time outdoors, and why wouldn’t we?  We have the best weather in the world.  Using outdoor tiles for patios is both a practical and an aesthetically pleasing choice.  

The reason that tiles are so practical for outdoor areas is that, if selected correctly, they are:

•    hard-wearing and durable
•    fade resistant and stain resistant
•    frost-resistant
•    resistant to chemicals (good for around swimming pools)
•    non porous, meaning water absorption is low
•    Slip resistant (good for safety reasons)
•    Easy to maintain and clean

Tiles are also found in a variety of sizes, patterns, colours and textures, making it very easy to find an outdoor tile flooring that adds to the overall look you are trying to achieve.

Of course, when selecting the tiles you want to use outdoors, you need to make sure that they are going to last - so always select a tile with a wear resistance or PEI rating of 3 or more.

Glazed porcelain tiles are less porous than glazed ceramic tiles, so they are the perfect choice to use as outside tiles.  An advantage of using a glazed porcelain tile is that it doesn’t require pre-sealing and is frost-proof - so they will not crack or lift when the temperature drops.
