Wall tiles

Unlike floor tiles, when it comes to selecting wall tiles there are very few restrictions that apply.  However, if selecting wall tiles for exterior walls to use as cladding, low water absorption and frost resistance are essential considerations. 

Johnson Tiles imports a range of white tiles that are for use exclusively on walls.  Remember that floor tiles can always be used on the wall, but wall tiles should never be used on the floor - this is due to the abrasion or wear resistance rating.

Wall tiles can be enhanced by matching them up with listello and border tiles to give you a beautiful finish. Used to frame windows, doorways and other architectural features, they can create interesting focal points and define separate areas of a room.

To make traditional square floor tiles look more exciting on your walls, try these wall tile design tips:
•    Turn the tiles on their diagonals instead of lining them up on their verticals.
•    Stagger the tiles in a brick-like fashion.
•    Cut square tiles into rectangles and stagger them in a single or double herring-bone formation.
•    Cut square tiles into strips and grout with a contrasting colour to emphasize the pattern they form.
•    Cut tiles into smaller squares and use as a splashback on your kitchen wall.

Grout can also be an important element in tile design. The choice of both colour and width will affect the overall look. Generally a dark colour is recommended for floors. Grout that matches the field colour of the tile will create a unified or blanket look. A contrasting colour grout will emphasise the grid or pattern formed by your wall tiles.
